Advisor, Communications (Office of Communications)

Permanent, Full-Time

The Office of Communications is a close-knit and high-performing team that works collaboratively on executing various communication deliverables for the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth. The Advisor, Communications will have a pivotal role in supporting the Manager, Communications, in communicating the message of the Archbishop and the Archdiocese of Perth.

The role is primarily responsible for providing advice and direct support to stakeholders across parishes, agencies, offices and organisations of the Archdiocese of Perth on best practice methods with regards to implementing communications strategies and campaigns, in addition to the development of content across archdiocesan websites and platforms utilised by internal and external audiences.

Closure period of 3.5 working days over Christmas (not counted as annual leave)

The successful candidate must have a willingness and capacity to support the Catholic ethos. Ideally, they will be a proactive and self-assured individual who can take initiative – someone ready to roll up their sleeves and effectively contribute to organisational goals.

They will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism
  • Minimum five years’ experience in a similar role
  • Ability to understand the role and structures of the Catholic Church in contemporary Australian society, including its social teaching
  • Advanced proficiency in the Adobe and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Intermediate skills in social media and newsletter systems like Mailchimp
  • Experience using a DSLR camera for both photography and videography  
  • Experience in developing engaging graphic, written, photographic and video content
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to work with individuals at varying levels of understanding and experience
  • Self-assured and proactive, with the confidence to provide expert advice
  • Positive can-do attitude and service mindset
  • Personal commitment to witnessing and promoting the ethos and values of the Catholic Church
  • Valid Western Australian ‘C’ Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to travel both intra and interstate on occasion

The successful candidate must provide a valid National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check, WA Driver’s Licence, and proof of Right to Work in Australia. A medical check may be required.

The Advisor, Workplace Safety (“safety”) provides safety knowledge, advice, and support in order to ensure safe work practices compliant to all applicable, regulatory requirements and best practices. This role involves all aspects of safety risk management, emergency planning and safety incident management. You will collaborate with the key contacts to improve safety initiatives and promote safety standards and its application in the workplace.

This work spans across various locations and may require travel 1-2 days per week to agencies, offices, organisations and parishes within the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth. Some evening and weekend work may be required, particularly in emergencies or for special events.

•    Diploma or Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety 
•    Knowledge of the current Work Health & Safety Act 2020 and regulations
•    Experience in collation of Work Health & Safety data collection and reporting, conducting workplace inspections and liaising with WorkSafe
•    Demonstrated ability to keep up to date on new and upcoming State legislation pertaining to Work Health and Safety laws 
•    High conceptual skills, ability to write papers at an executive level and able to engage a large group of stakeholders at different levels
•    Ability and capacity to travel throughout the Archdiocese boundaries
•    Valid Western Australian ‘C’ Driver’s licence
